Young People

How we work with young people

We join up expert music tutors and practitioners with young people, through their schools and in the wider community. Projects run from classroom singing to a first live gig, and aim to be cost-neutral for schools.

Our approach

Built on three things every young person needs

Our founding aim, to inspire and empower young people through music, guides this work. Projects are built on Self-Determination Theory. We believe that relatedness helps equip young people to be more active in their communities.

Autonomy

Freedom to explore their own musical interests and ideas.

Competence

Real technical and creative skills, through expert guidance and hands-on learning.

Relatedness

Connection through collaboration, peer support and shared achievements.

Projects

Projects we run with schools

Each one can be adapted to a school's pupils, timetable and space.

Primary

Seedlings

Group tuition on strings, keyboards or drums, making music from the very first session. Keen learners can move on to 1-to-1 tuition with Prodigies.

Primary

Studio Ninja

Six weekly sessions introducing recording, production and songwriting. Pupils write and produce their own tracks and share them at the end.

In class

Music Boost

A trained tutor supports whole-class music lessons using real instruments, helping deliver the national curriculum and adding to teachers' CPD.

All ages

Future Sounds Singers

Helps schools form choirs, with songs in English and in other languages pupils speak. Builds oracy and celebrates the diversity of the school.

Secondary

Mix Mentor

Digital music production where students own their creative work, ending in a mixtape release and a live showcase.

Extra-curricular

Local Band Workshops

Students form bands, try new instruments and prepare for performances, guided by multi-instrumentalist tutors.

Partnerships

How partnerships work

Each project brings together a school, local practitioners and a funder. We coordinate, manage and deliver it.

Schools

We help schools to enrich curricular and extra-curricular music, support wellbeing, and engage pupils who may feel disengaged, including those with SEMH needs. Partner schools provide practice space, time and a committed lead.
